An interview is your opportunity to create a good first impression. A strong interview can make or break your ability to get a certain job.  Because of this, we want to offer the following tips to help drivers ace their interviews.

Be Authentic!

There is no reason to be anyone other than yourself.  Have fun during the interview.  Allow the conversation to go wherever it needs to.  Most importantly, look for ways to connect with the person interviewing you.

Speak with Integrity

Most bosses find honesty to be one of the most attractive traits in applicants. Don’t run down former employers if they gave you trouble. Share what things you like and dislike. Be honest about what skills you have and which skills you do not have. interview_HAZMAT_Tanker

Prepare for Your Interview

You can do this in a couple of ways. The first one is to think through what questions the interviewer might ask and come up with answers. Secondly, research the company, understand who they are, and ask questions to discover how you fit in. Third, know your resume. Don’t be caught off guard if they ask a question about something on it.

Ask Questions

Remember that interviews are two-way streets. A company is checking to make sure that you can fit well with what they do.  Likewise, you should seek to find out if they fit well with your life. Ask questions based on what you’ve read on their website or can show the company your interest.

Know Your Worth

In addition to knowing what the other side brings to you, you should know what you can bring to them. Know who you are, what you value, and why they should hire you. After you know that, be ready to say it with grace and kindness.

Follow Up

Good companies value communication. Sending an email to the interviewer to follow up is a great way to show that you want the position. Following up also gives you the opportunity to restate the important points from your interview.

These are just a few interviewing tips for those of you looking for your next driving job.  Listening to these will give you a leg up on your competition. For more information on driving jobs, you can check out our previous blog posts here.
